Outreach

Recyke-a-bike’s Outreach projects are delivered by a team of qualified, supportive and fully trained cycle trainers and mechanics. Recyke-a-bike has been working within communities for over 20 years, using cycling as a tool to improve wellbeing, confidence, skills and access to opportunities.

All Outreach delivery is rooted in Recyke-a-bike’s charitable aims, values and mission. Each year, Recyke-a-bike supports over 5,000 people through cycle training and engagement activities, helping people of all ages and backgrounds to access cycling safely and confidently.

We deliver support with cycling, training and employability directly into communities across the Forth Valley and wider Scotland. Outreach activities support active travel, skills development, wellbeing and progression into training, volunteering or work. Delivery is flexible and shaped around the needs of each group or organisation.

Bikeability Training

Recyke-a-bike delivers Bikeability Level 1 in all primary schools across Stirling and Clackmannanshire, as well as in a large number of schools in Falkirk. Bikeability Level 1 is an introduction to cycling skills, focusing on basic bike control in a safe, off-road environment such as a playground or closed space.

Bikeability Level 2 is also delivered in the same local authority areas. Level 2 builds on these skills and focuses on riding safely on quiet roads, including road positioning, junctions, observation and hazard awareness. This helps children develop the confidence and skills needed to cycle safely in real traffic environments.

City & Guilds Courses

Recyke-a-bike is a registered City & Guilds centre and offers Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in cycle mechanics. These courses provide practical, hands-on training in bike maintenance and repair, alongside employability skills and workplace behaviours.

Courses can be booked privately by organisations or individuals. Funded places are sometimes available, usually aimed at people who are not currently in training, education or employment, contact us for more information.

Dr Bike Sessions

Dr Bike sessions are delivered in a range of locations depending on funding and partnerships, including schools, community centres and work with NHS partners. These sessions provide free bike safety checks, minor repairs and maintenance advice.

Dr Bike sessions can also be booked privately by companies, charities, schools and community groups for events, staff wellbeing days or community engagement activities. Get in touch if you'd like to find out more.

InspiRide Project

Recyke-a-bike delivers the InspiRide training, employability and wellness project. Further details are available on the InspiRide project page.

Primary School Partnerships

Recyke-a-bike provides ongoing in-depth support to a group of primary schools within Stirling and Falkirk. This includes more in-depth engagement such as Learn to Ride sessions for children who are not yet cycling confidently, as well as transition rides to help pupils prepare for cycling to secondary school.

These partnerships allow for sustained support rather than one-off sessions, helping schools embed cycling into everyday school life.

Pump Track Hire

With funding kindly provided by Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environmental Trust we were able to purchase a mobile pump track. This pump track is an exciting addition for events and is available to be hired, as long as our staff to man the track. Get in touch for more information.

Private Lessons, Group Rides and Maintenance Classes

We offer private lessons for children via our Eventbrite page - great for beginners or those who need a confidence boost. We can also support adults who want to learn how to ride a bike or to gain more confidence cycling, such as navigating cycling in traffic.

It's worth checking out our Eventbrite page for more information on group rides and maintenance classes, which are regularly added. Get in touch for more information.

Targeted and Variable Projects

Alongside core delivery, Recyke-a-bike runs a wide range of targeted projects that change throughout the year in response to need and funding. Recent and current projects include:

• Young Carers cycling project
• Cycling activities for people with visual impairments
• Mental health rides for children and adults
• In-school cycle training for children with additional support needs

These projects are designed to reach people who may face additional barriers to cycling and participation, and are developed in partnership with specialist organisations.

Booking and Partnerships

Outreach sessions can be commissioned by schools, local authorities, charities, community organisations and employers. Private bookings are available for lessons, classes, City & Guilds courses and Dr Bike sessions. Funded opportunities are offered when available, subject to eligibility and funding criteria.

Recyke-a-bike welcomes enquiries about new partnerships and outreach opportunities, thank you for your support!
